Abstract | Investing in racehorses has always been seen as an exotic bet, the domain of the super rich. In Hong Kong, although very much home to an elite circle, horse owners nevertheless frequently pay less for their bloodstock than they do for a car. As an investment, however, the rewards can, if you are very lucky, prove extremely handsome. According to Alfred Chow, the Jockey Club's racing secretary, the prerequisites for owning a racehorse here are that people have to be member of the Jockey Club for more than a year and a resident in Hong Kong.
