AbstractJapan is Hong Kong's most important trading partner after China and since the territory will soon be part of China, it must rank as the first. The political squabbles over the Diaoyou Islands have had no effect on the flourishing trade between Hong Kong and Japan, said Masaru Inoue, director general of the Japanese External Trade Organisation (JETRO) in an interview with the author. JETRO is devoted to stimulating trade throughout the world. One of its major offices is in Hong Kong. It organises seminars and exhibitions of Japanese goods and takes parties of businessmen and press to Japan at regular intervals to meet Japanese manufacturers and to become familiar with the Japanese culture.
