| Abstract | David Tang created the decor for the China Club, Shanghai Tang and the cosy Cohiba Cigar Divan in the nearby Mandarin Oriental. He was invited to Lai Kar Heen, the Chinese restaurant in the Ritz-Carlton basement which has recently been refurbished for a meal, to spew forth his philosophy of restaurant decoration. A room must have symmetry as it is this which enables people to feel comfortable within its walls. Lai Kar Heen, despite its soothing browns and beiges and nifty combination of tradition and minimalism, somehow lacks symmetry, Tang feels. He does, however, approve of the banquet seating along one wall. This article introduces the decor and the food of this Chinese restaurant recommended by Tang. |
