| Abstract | According to the Tianjin Daily, UNICOM signed on 18 May 1996 in Beijing a contract with the Simitomo Commercial Company of Japan and the GLOBALONE Company on the joint construction of a fixed telecom network in Tianjin. Vice Premier Zou Jiahua was present at the signing ceremony. The Tianjin Branch of UINCOM will use the foreign capital to build up a local telephone network in Tianjin. Total investment in the project will add up to US$250 million while investment in the first-phase construction will be US$34.2 million. |
