| Abstract | Global system for mobile communications (GSM) networks in 15 provinces, regions and cities were inter-connected on 1 January 1996 and roaming service on a trial basis was made available at the same time. As an important milestone in the annals of development of mobile communications in China, the inter-connections attest to the fact that China's mobile telephone networks have developed from a unitary analog system to a co-existence of both analog and digital systems and from manual roaming to automatic roaming. |
