Abstract | Asthma and allergic disease in both adults and children has been increasing in many Western and developing countries. Compared with its neighbours, Hong Kong has one of the highest prevalence rates for asthma and allergic disease in schoolchildren. Using identical methods, schoolchildren in various Asian countries with mean ages of 14 to 16 years, were studied in 1992. This article presents an overview of the relationship between allergen sensitisation and clinical manifestations, the relevant inhalant allergens and their aviodance, and the effectiveness of allergen-specific immunotherapy. |
