Abstract | The Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, which is likely to come into effect by the end of 1996, will affect practising accountants in Hong Kong, whether as empolyers or accountants rendering professional serivces. Under the Ordinance, any individual has the right to confirm with data users whether his or her personal data is being held, obtain a copy of such data, and have personal data corrected. Individuals may also complain to the new post of Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data about suspected breaches of the Ordinance and claim compensation for damage through civil proceedings. |
