| Abstract | SL + A Architects were commissioned for the design of the corner site bordering Cambridge and Hampshire Roads (presently under the Kai Tak flight path). Roger Jones, director of SL + A Architects, pointed out in this article that there were so many restrictions to the site that the options were considerably reduced. The old government land lease specified the construction of either one detached residence or four town houses on the site and required a set-back of 6m on the main Hampshire Road frontage. The restriction of 11m overall height, combined with minimum internal floor-to-floor height requirements, limited the scope for internal variations. Perhaps though, the main limitation was the fact that the project was speculative. |
