AbstractHong Kong has the unique honor to be home to the world's first commercial CDMA digital cellular telephone network. It has been operated by Hutchison Telecom since September of 1995. In July of 1996, the system reached the 50,000 subscriber mark, with 210 cell sites operational. The complicated radio frequency (RF) environment and difficult terrain in Hong Kong present one of the most challenging environments for a successful cellular network. This system is thus a pioneering step in the worldwide introduction of this radically new wireless communication technology.
