AbstractHong Kong's economic success owes much to its sophisticated telecommunications infrastructure. With 67 telephones per 100 persons, Hong Kong has the second highest telephone penetration rate in Asia. In 1993, Hong Kong's fixed network became the first in the world to be fully digitally switched. This is an illustration of the territory's position as a pioneer in telecommunications technology.
