| Abstract | This article is closely linked to some of the central aims of the Mental Health Association of Hong Kong. The author examines the topic of depression from the standpoint of public health. The public health approach encompasses consideration of the epidemiology of the disorder; of its consequences; of the causes, especially those relevant to prevention; of treatment not only regarding efficacy but regarding outcome, delivery of services and access; consideration of prevention. |
