| Abstract | The transfer to the last communist giant, China, of the sovereignty of Hong Kong so different economically, politically, and culturally from its vast neighbour is without historical precedent. Some unanswered questions about local population and foreign businesses in the territory and the administrative and legal problems of the transfer are a cause of widespread anxiety. So, it is essential that the problems relating to the transfer of sovereignty and the application of the Basic Law, the Special Administrative Region's mini-constitution, be resolved in good time. |
