| Abstract | A recent study by the State Council Development Research Centre, Beijing's top-level think-tank, showed that every one percentage point of decrease in exports affects China's GDP growth by 1.4 to 1.6 percentage points. The centre's analysts say that if 1996's export slump has continued unchecked, 2.5 million Chinese workers would have lost their jobs. |
