| Abstract | The pressure of a growing population on China's limited arable land has forced Beijing to embark on a programme that will see greater use of organic soil fertilizer in the next five years. Each year will see the organic fertilizer increased by five per cent, with not less than 30 tonnes applied to each hectare of land. Thus arable land's fertility is expected to be raised by a whole grade, leading to an extra 50 million tonnes of grain by the turn of the century. |
