| Abstract | Known as a special resource, the wasteland in Xinjiang covers 1.6 million sq km - accounting for one-sixth of China's total territory.Most of the area is desert. However, the efforts of local government and farmers have turned more than 3.87 million ha into arable land. In addition, 10 million ha of fallow land is suitable for cultivation, accounting for 28 per cent of the country's total. |
