| Abstract | The ramie textile sector suffered periods of adversity in 1988 and 1993, but has since shown signs of recovery. For raw ramie, from 2,300 Yuan per tonne, by Spring 1994 the purchase price had reached 10,000 Yuan, and by October 1994 a record 15,500 Yuan, surpassing the previous peak registered in 1986. The trend has not abated, and has caused alarm in the ramie textile plants. |
