AbstractIn 1949 there was no modern clothing factory in China, and hardly anyone wore factory-made clothing. In 1994, the country has over 40,000 clothing factories, employing altogether 3.6 million workers to produce an annual total of over 9 billion garments, or seven for every adult in China, and China-made clothing is exported all over the world. In 1993 China exported about 4 billion items of clothing, worth US$18.4 billion.
