AbstractThe number of silk trading firms in Hong Kong is said to have fallen from some 250 two years ago to around 100. In 1994, the trade was further depressed by the imposition of quotas on Chinese exports of silk goods to the United States and the European countries. At home the market is flooded with silk goods and prices were down, so much so that no burglaries of silk goods were reported. In 1993 silk fabric valued at over HK$30 million was reported stolen in some 20 burglaries.
