| Abstract | Since 1993 the silk textile industrial sector has suffered setbacks due to a sluggish international market, with reduced exports of raw silk and silk textiles and declining prices. Despite the technical improvements, many silk textile plants in China are still equipped with backward and inefficient plant, affecting the quality of output. In China the output of imitation silk textiles remains of first and second generation types, while Japan and South Korea turn out third and fourth generation products. In fact China must import $1.5 bilion worth annually of silk blended fabrics from such countries to enable its garment factories to produce high quality suits and other clothing. |
