| Abstract | On 15 November 1995, Zhejiang Village in Fengtai district to the south of Peking, the capital's ghetto for migrants from the Wenzhou region of Zhejiang province, was the subject of an evacuation order - "Notice on the clearance and reconstruction of Dahongmen in Fengtai district" (Guanyu qingli zhengdun Fengtai Dahongmen diqu de tonggao) issued by the municipality of Peking. Under the terms of the order, unauthorised residents have fifteen days to leave and illegal constructions are to be demolished before 30 November. The authors discuss this event in the article. |
