| Abstract | China's diplomatic efforts in the past year have focused on relations with developed countries, including former members of the disintegrated Soviet Union. Now, the mainland is turning its attention to what it once described as the Third World, placing particular emphasis on Africa. President Jiang Zemin will leave Beijing for the start of a two-week state visit to Kenya, Ethiopia, Egypt, Mali, Namibia and Zimbabwe. |
