AbstractStandard in design and common to all shopfronts in the building, what distinguishes the AOU window is the central display unit. Sited just inside the frontage and standing parallel to the shopfront, the structure is separated by angled glass spacers with two vertical panes of glass. On each of these, a glass display shelf stands on angled glass planes. All joints are glued and treated with ultra-violet in a process new to Hong Kong. The result offers no sense of enclosure and no distraction from the clothes on display, but conveys a sculptural quality, a play of glossy reflections and subtle greens when the planes of thick glass are viewed through one another.
