| Abstract | President Jiang Zemin cited three issues on which he said Chinese and Japanese leaders should reach consensus: a proper understanding of history with particular regard to Japanese aggression against China; the contributions of China's economic development to peace in the region and the world; and adherence to the "one China" principle on the Taiwan issue. He called for a long-term and far-sighted view and said the two countries should avoid "being penny wise and pound foolish." |
