AbstractIncreasing disparity in regional development and the under-development of inland China, especially the western provinces, are causing major structural problems for the Chinese economy. In order to guage the extent of China's disparity, changes in the regions' shares of Gross Demestic Product (GDP) and other key economic parameters for the 1988-93 period have been examined and tabled in the article.
