| Abstract | In many ways, Wei Jingsheng, who was convicted of sedition in Beijing this week and sentenced to 14 years in prison, was the last Red Guard. In fact, he was a Red Guard during the Cultural Revolution era (1966-1976), a devoted follower of Mao Zedong. He eventually lost his faith in communism but neither his zeal nor his uncompromising attitude toward the authorities. |
