AbstractA study was conducted in Hong Kong on 80 general outpatients to assess their knowledge of hepatitis B (HBV) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Infections. They were invited to answer a questionnaire concerning the two diseases. It was found that patients had better knowledge of HIV infection than HBV infection. The knowledge of the modes of transmission of HIV infection was satisfactory while that of hepatitis B was not so good. Age and educational level were associated with the degree of knowledge of HIV and hepatitis B infection. Young and educated patients had better knowledge of the disease.
