AbstractSince its introduction into Hong Kong in 1980, continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) has been increasingly used to treat end-stage renal failure patients in Hong Kong. In early 1980's, there were about 100 renal failure patients treated with CAPD in Hong Kong, and now the figure is approaching 2000. This number will continue to grow and a family physician has an increasing likehood of seeing such patients in his clinic. It is therefore important for a family doctor to have good working knowledge of his technique and to take up an increasingly important role in the management of patients who are on CAPD.
