AbstractThe article was concerned with the relevance stressors reported by Chinese patients undergoing continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD). Stressors perceived by renal failure patients may finally contribute to non-compliance and causing preventable complications if appropriate care is not given. Therefore, a study was conducted on 130 CAPD patients in four dialysis centres in Hong Kong. The results revealed that fatigue and decreased mobility were the most troublesome stressors followed by itching of skin, change in body function and restriction of living; and 8 of the top 10 stressors were belong to psychosocial aspect. The results also showed there was a relationship between length of treatment and itching of the skin. Comprehensive pre-dialysis assessment, dialysis clinical pathway and new dialysis patients counselling sessions were identified to alleviate these identified stressors and furthermore emphasized as a means to improve the quality of care.
