Article TitleTransport and environmental policy perspectives on the economic transition in South China and Hong Kong / Eammon Judge and Mary Heycock.
Is Part OfHong Kong public administration ; v.4, no.2, Sep 1995, p.223-250.
AbstractThis article focues on the environmental implications of the rapid changes taking place in the transport sector in China. In particular, it looks at the impact which rapid motorisation is likely to have on urban spatial development, and the consequent effects on travel demand and global warning. It also concentrates on South China as region of rapid change adjacent to Hong Kong, which itself could see rapid spatial change after 1997. The discussion is set within a general context of Western experience of 40-50 years of transport dependent patterns of development. It concludes that simple extrapolations of Western experience to the Chinese situation cannot easily be made.
