| Abstract | In Hong Kong, the number of split families has been increasing and this can be attributed partly to the increase in emigration from Hong Kong to other parts of the world, predominantly Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United States. For some of these emigrants, one member, usually the husband returns to Hong Kong to continue in his business practice or to seek better employment opportunities. This special type of split families is commonly known as the "astronaut family" because of the amount of time the man spends flying between countries. |
