| Abstract | In response to the growing popularity of internet banking in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued a Guideline on the Authorisation of Virtual Banks under section 16(10) of the Banking Ordinance. This Guideline not only sets out the factors that the HKMA will take into account in deciding whether to authorise the establishment of a vitual bank, it also contains broad principles that existing banks should observe in their development of electronic banking products and services. |
