| Abstract | Hong Kong was founded and has been developed in the past 150 years as a commercial city. Hence, every form of development is necessarily derived from commercial motives and pegged to commercial interests. Our heritage should be preserved and cherished for our own good from a cultural standpoint. Unfortunately, such a noble premise in heritage conservation is not going to work within the prevailing established commercial attitude of Hong Kong society. The article tackles the issue of heritage conservation from a long-term strategic basis and a short-term tactical basis. |
