AbstractFocus groups have become increasingly popular as a method of data collection in nursing research and in the evaluation of health education interventions. The advantages of focus groups have been cited as the depth of data created by the synergy of the group process as well as gaining information on sensitive topics. A study, undertaken to increase women's knowledge about the prevention of cervical cancer and the uptake of cervical screening, used multiple preventive strategies to achieve the objectives of the project. A major preventive strategy in the project involved health education talks to women's groups in the community. The article focuses on the process evaluation, which used focus groups to assess women's perceptions of the talks, and in particular their perceptions of the mehtods used to implement the health education talk.
