| Abstract | In November 1999, Chinese negotiators signed a landmark accord with the United States on the terms of China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO). Beijing must still reach agreements with other trading partners, notably the European Union (EU), before accession. But China's leaders have already turned their attention to winning acceptance for the deal among various segments of society. In some economic sectors, such as agriculture, it will be a hard sell. |
