AbstractThere is a great difference between medicine and poisonous substances. Unfortunately, both are frequently taken to mean "drug" in the context of drug preventive education. In the Chinese or eastern culture, poisonous substances are the focus of education and as a result scare tactics are the common strategies. In some western societies, drugs appear more neutral and the prevention messages are milder and less frightening. The article is an address to a group of media students at the City University of Hong Kong. Spencer So, Director of Community Drug Advisory Council (CDAC), elaborates further his perception of culture on the choice of publicity messages.
