Abstract | Francisco Amaral, 45, the Number Three official in the Gambling Inspectorate of Macau government, was murdered near the Lisboa Hotel, the top Macau's casino in March 1998. Three days later, a gunman pumped bullets into marine police officer Chu Ion-kao, 36, while he was in his car with his wife and daughter. On April 15, 1998, the driver of security undersecretary Manuel Monge was shot dead outside his own home. The article gives an eight-month truce, a resumption of triad wars which exposes the government's lack of authority. |
