Article TitleHepatitis B immunity status post-vaccination in healthy Chinese subjects / C. Chan ... [et al.].

AbstractIn Hong Kong, 50 percent of the Chinese population were estimated to have serological makers and 9.5 percent to be chronic carriers of Hepatitis B. The article measures the antibody to Hepatitis B surface antigen (anti-HBS) level to assess whether vaccinees required booster doses and correlated this with age, gender, body mass index (BMI) and time elapsed since vaccination to see if this had any effect on the immune response to primary vaccination. Results from the study suggested that the immune response to the recombinant vaccine in healthy Chinese subjects is adequate and lasts for at least four years. Routine post-vaccination testing and boosters are probably not indicated, particularly in non-overweight healthy subjects.
