AbstractPsychiatry is the branch of medicine primarily concerned with human behaviours and emotions. Mental illnesses have always constituted a major part of the family physicians' workload worldwide. The article points out that family physicians play a significant role in the management of the patients' mental health problems and stresses the need to strengthen training for family physicians in this area. The elderly suicide rate in Hong Kong is also mentioned in the article.
