AbstractThe manager of the China Silk Corporation has offered a strategy for reviving the battered silk production sector. By his estimate there are 908 state-owned silk production plants of all kinds in China, employing over 800,000 workers. Including rural and collective silk plants, the total would reach over 3,000 with 1.6 million workers. The state-owned sector possesses assets totalling 22.5 billion Yuan, with a reeling capacity of 3,710,000 strands of raw silk, 300,000 spindles for spun silk and 210,000 looms. The article features the problems faced by the silk industry and proposes certain remedies.
