| Abstract | Red chips -- companies based and listed in Hong Kong which have significant mainland government interests -- staged a strong rally on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange during the six months prior to October 1997. Blue chips, on the other hand, after an initial dramatic growth, began a decline in late August. Serious investors, including institutions, are debating this curious development. The article takes a look at the fundamentals of these companies and makes the recommendations. |
