| Abstract | Despite the regional financial crisis since 1997, American hardwood exports to six major Asia markets, including China/Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, have achieved a respectable growth of 18.6 percent for the year of 1997, just slightly below the 21.9 percent increase in 1996, according to figures from the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC). |
