AbstractBeijing's Internet market looks open with the operation of over 100 Internet service providers (ISP). Information industry has accounted for 39 per cent of the annual industrial output in the capital city. The next step, after the massive build-up of both ministerial and private networks in these couple of years, is to interconnect various networks in the city to improve resources allocation, according to the Leadership Team for Beijing Informatisation (LTBI). The article introduces the first move towards interconnection named Capital Public Information Platform (CPIP), including the urban SDH transmission, ChinaPac, China Digital Data Network (DDN), ChinaNet, ATM and Frame Relay switches, Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), and multimedia network. It also introduces the Beijing Telecom Administration (BTA)'s win-win strategy.
