Abstract | The Labour Government in London and influential business groups and organisations in the United Kingdom (UK) are making serious efforts to improve Sino-British economic ties. The November 1997 conference on "China and Britain -- Partners for the 21st century", organised by the Confederation of British Industry, the Royal Institute of International Affairs and the Institute of Export in the British capital, attended by businessmen, technocrats, and politicians, amply illustrated the significant role Hong Kong would play in achieving this objective. |
