AbstractSweets are bringing more smiles to mainland Chinese faces. According to a Euromonitor press release, in four years leading up to 1996 confectionery retail sales doubled in value to RMB$11,118 million from RMB$6,105 million in 1992. Mainlanders gorged on 529,000 of Candy tonnage in 1996 compared to 1992's light snack of 380,000 tonnes. Euromonitor forecasts mainlanders' sugar rush addiction will cost them RMB$21,183 million in retail sales by 2001.
