| Abstract | The political reshuffle which took place at the 15th National People's Congress (NPC) saw respected economic reformer Zhu Rongji replace Li Peng as China's premier. It confirms that President Jiang Zemin appreciates the need for rapid and decisive economic reforms. However, the endurance of the new Jiang-Zhu axis is likely to be proportional to the amount of pain the reforms induce. The article examines the general stability, political scene and structure, as well as business issues of China. |
