AbstractThe 'Monument for 1997 - Hong Kong International Ideas Competition' was an enterprising idea by the Young Architects League to inspire the design industry to creative activity and commemorate Hong Kong's return to Chinese sovereignty in 1997. Sponsored by David KK Chan and Dr Tao Ho and organised by the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, the competition aimed to explore the possibility of a new architectural language that engages the public realm, and hoped to heighten international communities' awareness of Hong Kong in 1997.
