| Abstract | The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong, Professor Y.C. Cheng, went to Shanghai in March 1997 to deliver two papers on the importance of higher education in the Asia Pacific Basin. This article summarizes the main points of his speech at the IAUP's (International Association of University Presidents) conference and a forum organised by the Shanghai Education Commission, the CPPCC (Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference) Shanghai Municipal Committee and Fudan University. |
