Abstract | The accountancy profession in China traces its origin to 1918 boasting a history of 80 years. The handover of the sovereignty of Hong Kong to China and the 15th Congress of the Chinese Communist Party have been two significant events for the People's Republic of China (PRC) in 1997 and have important implications for the development of the accountancy profession.
