| Abstract | Hong Kong's exports of polished diamonds to Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand have decreased since July 1997 due to the devaluation of currencies in these countries which has resulted in delayed payments and other problems. Also, the article features the retail sales of diamonds and diamond jewellery in Hong Kong, China, Japan and South Korea in 1997. Hong Kong's status as the regional diamond trading centre in Southeast Asia is also discussed. |
