AbstractSince China and the United States established diplomatic relationship in 1979, bilateral economic and trade relations have been developing and expanding amid twists and turns for the 18 years before 1997. The rapid development of Sino-US economic and trade ties is the result of great complementarity between the two economies. As a developing country, China boasts low labor cost and adequate labor force, but suffers capital shortage and lagging scientific and technical development; as a developed country, the United States is economically and technologically advanced, rich in capital supply but high in labor cost. This article reviews and projects prospects of the economic and trade relations between China and the United States.
